Teaching English To Speakers Of Other Languages

The Master of Arts in TESOL is a three-semester program for teachers with some experience who would like to further their professional development. Core courses cover language analysis, acquisition and learning; teaching skills and techniques; research methods; curriculum development; assessment and evaluation. Elective courses broaden the curriculum in specific areas of individual interest.

The Certificate in TESOL is a one-semester program designed for graduates who are proficient in English and want to begin a teaching career. It provides the basic training for teaching English as a non-native language.

The Advanced Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is a four-week intensive program designed for groups of experienced teachers who wish to further their professional development. The curriculum covers four broad areas: teaching methodology, classroom interaction, language analysis and assessment, with special attention to principles of learner-centeredness.

Mission

The Master of Arts (TESOL) program, taught in English, is designed for teachers with some experience who would like to further their professional development. Graduates of the program understand how languages are learned and can make informed choices of teaching methods and strategies for specific local circumstances. Applying contemporary principles of curriculum design, they can produce English course materials of professional quality. They are qualified to evaluate learning, assess English language attainment, and research educational aspects of the English language classroom.

Payap University's location has unique advantages for carrying out classroom observation, teaching practice and research. In Chiang Mai schools, colleges and universities English is being taught as foreign, second or auxiliary language at all levels. And there are excellent opportunities for studies of English teaching and learning in the multilingual environments of northern Thailand and nearby Laos, Myanmar, China and Vietnam.
