Payap University faith and philosophical principles has been set as one of the University missions based on the Christian foundation. The principles aim to empower the desired characteristics of graduates which include ethical hearts, society’s servants, academic excellence, and develop international competence. Furthermore, the principles will lead to visions on developing the University to be “a source of international learning, developing global citizens”. Those who have studied at Payap University must be aware of self-development, have knowledge, be creative, well behaved, have responsibility for oneself, and have the ability to work efficiently as in the University motto “Truth and Service”. The five principles which include Peace, Truth, Service, Unity, and Stewardship are described below.
Principle 1: Transformation toward Authentic True Peace – Shalom
This principle aims to develop students, faculty members, and supporting staff of Payap University to be the leaders of true peace building (Shalom) in several levels, i.e. personal, community, society, Thailand, and the world. Payap people will be encouraged to be aware of values of sustainable development and growth by strengthening their principle of self-development in different aspects, “Visionary”, “Be Proactive”, and “Live Win-Win”. The slogan of this principle is Where to change, Change who, Change our mind, Just this makes us have peace in heart.
Principle 2: Build Trust through Truth
This principle aims to develop students, faculty members, and supporting staff of Payap University to be the leaders who have morality, ethics, honesty, transparency, professional ethics, freedom to seek knowledge, and research ethics. Payap people will be encouraged to be aware of self-development in different aspects, “Integrity”, “Competence”, and “Discipline”. The slogan of this principle is building faith, leading trust, having stewardship, and having honesty are persons with truth.
Principle 3: Service through Vocation
This principle aims to develop students, faculty members, and supporting staff of Payap University to be the leaders who can find their own abilities and develop their potentials. Payap people are encouraged to make the most of their knowledge and abilities for themselves and societies. They are supported to use their potentials in a systematic way. Payap people will be encouraged to be aware of self-development in different aspects, “Gifts”, “Needs”, and “Generous service”. The slogan of this principle is being generous, supporting, increasing friendship, the more we have the more we give, the more we share the more we will be happy, suffering becomes goodness because our service for each other.
Principle 4: Delight in Diversity and Global Awareness
This principle aims to develop students, faculty members, and supporting staff of Payap University to be the leaders who are aware of human’s values, honors, and prestige, cultivating good attitudes and developing skills in sharing knowledge in various religions, arts, and cultures and universality. Payap people will be encouraged to be aware of self-development in different aspects, “Identity”, “Empathy”, and “Synergy”. The slogan of this principle is harmonizing diversity, breaking up differences, having reconciliation and unity.
Principle 5: Faithful Stewardship
This principle aims to develop students, faculty members, and supporting staff of Payap University to be the leaders who are aware of responsibilities, value, sustainable results, concerning of importance of people in holistic way (i.e. physical aspects, thoughts, societies, mental aspects, and spirit), caring about human beings and being responsible for environment protection and conservation to the best. Payap people will be encouraged to be aware of self-development in different aspects, “Holistic”, “Sustainable”, and “Developing”. The slogan of this principle is to admit when we are wrong, feel good when we do good deeds, be responsible for our duties, ourselves, and other people in the societies, and know what is valuable, and have faithful stewardship.
The undergraduate students are required to pass the morals and ethics training as being one of the graduation requirements. The students will attend the training and workshop for learning and understanding the five principles of Payap University, including the participation in social service activities with the Religious Affairs Office or with the faculty/college. The training/workshop hours must not be less than 20 hours.
